Kabuki Onnagata demonstration

Here’s a great chance to experience Japanese culture!

During Shakespeare’s day, female actors were banned from the stage.

Boys played the female roles.  Just imagine … Juliet was really Joe!

The same was true of the Kabuki stage in Japan at around the same time, but instead of boys, highly skilled male actors called onnagata played female roles, and still do to this day.

Here’s your chance to meet Nakamura Gankyo, an onnagata performer.
